Interlibrary Loan of the day

Captain ILL knows all about getting into pots; he gets into a pot every day when he dons his adamantine headgear and shuffles out to fight crime. Getting Into Pots: A Basic Pottery Manual refers to something a bit different-the making of pots out of clay. Captain ILL knows at least one potter who occasionally reads this blog (but has yet to leave a comment), so he will refrain from going on at length on a topic he knows nothing about. There is one thing he can say with a fair degree of confidence though: a clay pot would be a poor substitute for the Captain's trusty metal headgear. If he had been wearing a clay pot on his head that day when Freddy Furious threw a truck at him, the truck would have crushed the clay pot (and the Captain's head) instead of bouncing off his adamantine pot and crushing his elbow instead.

The great Al Stewart recorded a song called "Songs Out of Clay" back in the early 70s. This of course has nothing to do with the topic. I just wanted to give a shout out to Al and encourage Captain ILL's readers to acquire as many Al Stewart albums (as we used to call them back in the day) as possible.

Captain ILL tried to add "Songs Out of Clay" to his Finetune list, but couldn't locate it. He added "Songs On the Radio" instead.

I'm sorry to hear that. "Song on the Radio", even in Al's opinion is a terrible song. Arista Records, looking for a hit single to follow up "Time Passages", asked him to do another poppy song with saxaphones and that was the unfortunate result.

On a slightly different topic, how did you like the live Knopfler? Sound is a bit spotty but I thought it was okay for what it was.

Rats! "Song On the Radio" was chosen because it started with "Song", but if you can recommend another song to replace it with, your word is good enough for me.

I was very happy to get the live Knopfler CDs, though I found it a bit ironic that he paused at one point to ask someone not to do any recording.

If you can get "Roads to Moscow" it would be great.

Done.

I also removed "Song On the Radio", so I actually have space for one more Al Stewart song ...

More Al! Let's see. Don't know if you can find these but try for "Antarctica", "Terminal Eyes", "On the Border", "Flying Sorcery", "Fields of France", "Running Man", "The One That Got Away".

Just a few off the top of my head.

Finetune didn't have Antarctica, but it did have Terminal Eyes, so Al Stewart is now maxed out on my playlist. Obviously Finetune is a bit lacking when it comes to Al Stewart, but I also noticed several other holes in their collection while I was browsing through.

Thanks Bowlingjoe.

"Terminal Eyes" is from the same album as "Roads to Moscow" ("Past, Present and Future" from 1974) which is in my opinion the best Al Stewart album.

"Terminal Eyes" is a bit of a departure for him, as I think he wanted to do something that resembled "I Am the Walrus" by The Beatles.

"The best Al Stewart album"? That's a pretty bold statement since he also has an album called "Greatest Hits".

Just remember, Captain ILL, the Bay City Rollers also had an album called "Greatest Hits". Be careful.

Thanks for the reminder! I've also now added "I Only Want to Be With You" to the playlist.
