Interlibrary Loan of the day

Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet has the distinction of having been ILLed a dozen times in the last 5 years. Unfortunately, it is out of print and running about $150 at Amazon so the library won't be picking up any copies.

In any case, while full of pretty pictures, the book is inaccurate on at least one point: it is not the world's fastest flying jet. Wikipedia indicates this aircraft has a top speed of mach 3. The Batplane, however, can fly at nearly mach 6. That's twice as fast! It's too bad that authors can't get their facts straight, especially when there are so many facts available out there on the internets.

Captain ILL, I can barely contain my excitement!! This is MY interlibrary loan! Well, to be strictly accurate, it is my son's. He enjoys submitting rincs under his mother's name. I'll be sure to let him know about the troubling inaccuracy.

Speaking as the son in question, I am astonished and amazed at your speed, Captain ILL! Clearly, if only you were to be airborne, you would be going at least Mach 9.

Captain ILL is happy he could be of service. Sadly, flight is not one of his superpowers, but he lives in hope that one day the aliens that granted him his extraordinary abilities, will return to give him the power of flight.
