Interlibrary Loan of the day
Civil Registration of Orleans Parish Births, Marriages and Deaths 1790-1833 is one of those big thick books you'd wish to have in your shirt pocket as a bullet comes whizzing toward your heart. Captain ILL can only imagine the giddy delight of a genealogist feverishly paging through this enormous volume to discover that their ancestor was: "about 51 years old, a grocer, residing on Toulouse Street at the corner of the Basin Carondelet; recorded on May 29, 1833". Captain ILL doesn't concern himself too much about his ancestors since, in the words of Richard Dawkins, "All earthly living things are certainly descended from a single ancestor." The Captain figures he'll just wait until they finger that single ancestor, and not worry about all the folks in the middle.
